You can purchase high quality aluminium framed windows pre-painted, primer only or bare. With a little bit of work you can match them to your home or renovate old aluminium window frames.

First…clean the windows of dirt and grease with some hot soapy water, rinse and dry with a clean cloth or towel. Next use rubbing alcohol or WD-40 to remove the last of the oils and clean well with a new clean cloth. Allow a few minutes for the solvent to evaporate from the frame.

Using masking tape to mask off the glass with newspaper so that paint does not mark the glass. Use a primer, making sure to follow the manufactuers instructions, to prepare the frame for painting. This gives a good surface for the paint to adhere to. You might be tempted to skip this step however a few minutes now will save you months or years in the future. Allow to dry

Using good quality exterior paint, paint or spray the outside surfaces of the frame. You can use interior (or more of the exterior) paint on the inside surfaces of the frame. Allow to dry.

Remove the masking tape and newspaper and using a razor blade or cutting blade knife carefully remove any paint that may have leaked under the tape.

Stand back and admire your hard work! It wasn’t so difficult after all!

Everyone wants their home to look the best and some people do take initiative to make it look the best. While planning to make a home to look better, window frames play a very important role. They are available in a wide range of styles, material and designs which suits the character of your house completely. We use window frames in our house whose main use is more than holding the glass in the wall. This frame allows us to open the window at that time when we need fresh air or wish to see outside. When a person plans to buy window frames, he should consider various aspects such as energy efficiency, cost, maintenance, cost of the frame, ease of cleaning the frame, durability and colour combination.

Basically, there are four types of window frame materials like wood, aluminium, Vinyl and Fibreglass. We find wooden frames to be quite famous and widely used due its basic feature of being able to divide into various shapes easily. Window frames which are found these days are made from UPVC due to its good strength and maintenance free nature. As they are made up of plastic, they can easily be converted into any size or shape.

You can see differences between the old home window designs such as diamond shaped black lines across the glass and in modern windows you will find aluminium or Vinyl frames suiting the style of new homes. Another important material which is quite new and expensive is fibreglass composite. This material is quite expensive due to its strength and is quite common for its residential use in making windows. As this product is quite new, most of the window fitters are not able to provide it due to the cost factor.
You can also find steel window frames and they were more preferred by people in 1990s. This product is hardly used by people nowadays. Die main disadvantage of using steel as window frame is that they rust and require great maintenance. Apart from this, steel window frame are quite heavy which makes them a substance, heavy to handle.

Investing in replacement windows is a home improvement project that delivers major value for your home. When you are upgrading its important to take the window frames into account. Both the condition of the old frame and the architectural style of your home will determine which the best frames to choose are. But what are the most durable window frames and how do the other styles stack up?
Traditional Styles
Often window frames were made from timber, mainly because it was readily avgable and easy to work with. Wood is also a great choice because of its qualities as an insulator both for sound and heat. Common types of wood used in window frames are oak, pine and mahogany.
How durable is wood when exposed to the elements over long periods of time? Softwoods, such as pine, will rot if left untreated and open to the rain, wind and snow. Harder woods will also deteriorate, although they may last longer. In the past timber window frames have been painted or stained to add a level of protection, although this wears off and needs to be reapplied every few years.
Cladding for Window Frames
There are also some more modern products that build on the advantages of wood. Both aluminium and vinyl are used to clad a wood frame, providing a weather resistant surface on the outside with a warm and attractive wood frame on the inside. Often pine and oak are used for the interior frame, although it is much thinner than solid wood frames. It will still need to be finished with either a stain or paint product, but because that part of the frame is not exposed to the weather it won’t need repainting as often.
Clad window frames are more durable than wood over the long term, providing a maintenance free surface. But wood itself does offer a dependable and attractive product — your choice of material will depend on what is a priority to you.

Choosing the right window frame is an important task which, due the wide spectrum of products available on the market, can become very difficult. This way, in order to find the right window frames is important to be well informed and have in mind a clear idea of what we need.

You could find window frames made of a wide variety of materials, such as, for example, solid wood, fiberglass, composites, clad wood, and vinyl. Each one of these materials has different characteristics and their own advantages and disadvantages, offering this way a wide range of options and allowing buyers to find one which properly suits their needs.

One of the most traditional window frame material you might find is wood. Wood window frames have some pros and some cons. These window frames have the disadvantage of being easy to be painted and renewed any time you may wish as well as they usually are less expensive than others, but they have the disadvantage of requiring an important time for their maintenance.

A good choice for a wood window frame is a clad one. Clad window frames have wood covered by vinyl or aluminum, being this way more durable and easier to maintain, while they still are less expensive than others. You can find a wide variety of clad wood frames in different colors and designs as well as varying in price depending on their strength and quality.

The easiest to maintain window frames probably are the vinyl ones. Vinyl window frames will never require you to paint them to make them look new since their appearance doesn’t deteriorate easily. Despite this, as time passes by, their functionality might become deteriorated since vinyl is not as strong as other materials.

One of the main choices you might want to consider at the time of looldng for the right window frames is fiberglass. Fiberglass or composites window frames have many of the advantages offered by wood but they are more durable. These materials are very versatile and can be painted as wood, but they are much stronger and don’t deteriorate easily.
